Delhi Police arrest Rajasthan DEO in paper leak case Tuesday, April 27 2004 18:01 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
In the biggest catch so far, Delhi Police has arrested a District Education Officer (DEO) of Rajasthan in connection with the April 10 pre-Medical test paper leak case.
The Crime Branch arrested Laxmi Sharma, DEO of Ganganagar district, on charges of playing the role of a "conduit" in luring parents of nine students for purchasing the papers, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) B K Gupta said today (Aril 27, 2004).
Sharma's daughter Ankita was among the students appearing for the examination and she had allegedly struck a deal with Banni Singh Gautam, "co-ordinator" of the racket, for roping in parents in return for monetary benefits, he said.
Ankita was one of the 13 students found with two accused when a Crime Branch team raided a house in a East Delhi locality on April 10 to detect the leak hours before the examination next day.
The accused had placed an advertisement in Ganganagar six months back inviting students for admission and assuring guaranteed admissions in medical courses, police sources said, adding Sharma responded to it and struck the deal with Gautam.
She was to receive Rs 2 lakh per student from Gautam, who has already been arrested, they said.
This is the tenth arrest in connection with the paper leak case.
