SC guidelines to stop commercialising of education Tuesday, April 27 2004 11:11 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
The Supreme Court today (Apr 27, 2004) laid down strict guidelines to stop commercialisation of education by private schools in the national capital and said the schools have to comply with conditions mentioned at the time of allotment of land given at concessional rates.
A three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice V N Khare, by 2:1 majority, directed the director of education to go into the land allotment letters and find out whether the conditions therein had been complied with or not by the schools.
The court directed that it is mandatory for every recognised unaided school to file yearly financial statements disclosing its income from fee collected from students and other expenses as well as the profit and surplus before the authorities.
