BJP leaders indulging in false self-praise: Sonia Tuesday, April 27 2004 13:54 Hrs (IST)
Dausa (Rajasthan):
Accusing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders for indulging in false self-praise, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today (Apr 27, 2004) charged them with disrupting social unity of the country by their divisive politics.
"Despite failing in fulfilling all its promises made during the last Parliamentary elections and doing nothing but corruption during NDA (National Democratic Alliance) rule at the Centre, BJP leaders are now indulging in false praise of their non existent achievements," Gandhi said addressing an election rally in Dausa.
"Tall promises of good governance and removal of fear, hunger and corruption made by BJP in the last Lok Sabha polls remain unfulfilled as NDA leaders did nothing but corruption during their rule. Commission was taken in defence deals not leaving even coffins," Gandhi said.
Congress was fighting an ideological battle with BJP, which she said was damaging social unity of the country by its "divisive ideology and politics".
She said the country could move forward only by strengthening the "fabric of social unity".
Hitting hard at economic policies of Vajpayee-led Government, Gandhi claimed problems of all sections of the society increased during NDA rule.
"What have women, youth and dalits got from this Government," she asked.
