SP to prevent formation of BJP Govt 'at all costs' Tuesday, April 27 2004 22:20 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Amid exit poll predictions of a hung Lok Sabha and Samajwadi Party likely to emerge as a kingmaker, the party's chief Mulayam Singh Yadav ruled out supporting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and declared that it would prevent formation of a BJP-led Government "at all costs".
"SP will not support BJP. It will prevent BJP from forming Government at all costs and would decide its strategy after the full results are out on May 13," Yadav told Zee News when asked whether he would form a front with erstwhile allies who had joined hands with BJP in recent years.
Asserting that Uttar Pradesh would decide who will come to power at the Centre, he said SP Parliamentary board would meet after May 13 and decide the course of action.
To a specific question whether SP would play a lead role in the event of the formation of a non-BJP Government, he said, "The party will decide after seeing the results."
