'Exit poll results blessing in disguise for BJP'
Wednesday, April 28 2004 16:11 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: Terming the exit poll results as a "blessing in disguise" for the saffron party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj today (Apr 28, 2004) said it would reactivate party workers and make voters sit up and realise their responsibilities towards exercising their franchise.

"Though the exit polls are not scientifically correct, the results showing a slide in NDA's electoral fortunes will bring the party workers out of complacency and make them more active," the Union Health Minister told reporters in Lucknow.

With the exit polls predicting a hung Parliament, the voters too would realise their responsibility and voting percentage will go up in the remaining two phases of polling on May 5 and 10, she added.

On the veracity of the exit polls, she said they were not scientifically correct and the party's own assessments base on the feed back from its own sources indicate that BJP will get over 200 seats and NDA will get clear majority to form the Government.

Taking a dig at the claims for the Prime Minister's post by leaders of the coalition partners of the Congress, she said both Sharad Pawar and Laloo Prasad Yadav have "staked claim" for the PM's post while the Congress too has in a veiled manner said that leader of the largest party should be made the leader.

The Congress has started dreaming of forming the Government on the basis of the exit poll predictions without realising that exit polls show a difference of over 100 seats between the NDA and Congress alliance, she said.
