Congress is a team without a captain, says Advani
Thursday, April 29 2004 20:30 Hrs (IST)

Alwar: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today (Apr 29, 2004) expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre would return to power and that Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will occupy the top post after the general elections.

"Whatever exit polls say it is certain that the NDA would regain power and President APJ Kalam would be inviting Vajpayee to form the next Government," he said.

"People will bring back NDA Government into power because they do not want political instability which is not good for the country," Advani said while addressing an election rally in support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Chand Nath.

Describing the Opposition alliance led by Congress as a "team without any captain", he said by exercising their franchise in favour of BJP, the electorate would achieve a two-in-one objective that of getting the party back to power and making Vajpayee Prime Minister again.

To claims for the Prime Minister's post, if Congress-led alliance musters majority in polls, the Deputy Prime Minister said, "Earlier it was Vajpayee versus a big question mark but now it is Vajpayee versus several claimants."

Asserting that the Vajpayee Government changed the development scenario in the country, he said the Government if it gets another term would see to it that all villages in the country had power, water, roads, education and health facilities besides providing irrigation to every farm.

With huge foreign exchange reserves and fine economic indicators, he said India was becoming a force to reckon with in the world fora.
