Dual citizenship to NRIs in the UK soon: Ronen Sen Tuesday, June 29 2004 16:25 Hrs (IST)
London:
Non-Resident Indians (NRI) holding British passports will soon be entitled to dual citizenship as the Citizenship Act was being amended to get regulations changed, Ronen Sen, Indian High Commissioner has said.
"The question of dual citizenship has not been stalled," Sen said last night (Apr 29, 2004) on the eve of his laying down office.
Answering queries, Sen said, "The amendments to the Citizenship Act have been moved in Parliament. Following the amendment, a series of actions has to be taken for changing a number of rules and regulations."
Sen, a career-diplomat who had earlier served as India's Ambassador in Russia, Germany and several other countries said that his two-year tenure here was quite fruitful.
Observing that it has been a fairly intensive period, Sen said the real turning point in the India-UK relations came about following the visit of British Prime Minister Tony Blair to India and the signing of the Delhi declaration. "What we have done is, we have maintained the momentum."
Apart from the visit, the top leadership of the two countries has been constantly in touch either on telephone or through correspondence, he added.
