Indian docs help bedridden Pak boy walk normally Friday, April 30 2004 22:33 Hrs (IST)
Pune:
A 14-year-old Pakistani boy Dalip Amarlal Talreja, suffering from cerebral palsy, was successfully operated at a city hospital recently.
The boy, who was suffering from this disease by birth, came to Pune after the relatives suggested to them that it can be treated here better, Dr Anant Bag, who operated the boy on April 16, told reporters today (Apr 30, 3004).
"The boy who was bedridden for 14 years is now able to walk and will soon be able to do all the chores which he could not even imagine," the doctor said.
Talreja's brother and mother had tried to get him treated in Pakistan but the doctors there were unable to succeed and finally one of the relatives of the patient, who is in Pune and had similar problems, told them that treatment was available here, Bag said.
The boy then applied for Visa on medical ground to the Pakistani Embassy, which granted him the permission to come here for the treatment, Bag added.
The operation lasted for only 35 minutes and the very next day the boy was able to stand on his feet, he said. The patient was also present at the press conference.
Four more Pakistani citizens are likely to visit the city for the treatment, the doctor said.
