'Pawar's PM dreams will turn out to be a nightmare' Saturday, May 1 2004 20:27 Hrs (IST)
Siliguri:
Nationalist Trinamool Congress leader P A Sangma today (May 1, 2004) ridiculed Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief and his former colleague Sharad Pawar saying his dream of becoming Prime Minister after the Lok Sabha election would turn out to be a "nightmare" and it was best he give up such aspirations.
"Where is Pawar's scope for becoming Prime Minister?" Sangma, a former Lok Sabha Speaker, asked at a street corner meeting.
"If Pawar is eager for a Ministry he could apply to join the NDA, but then I am certain that the NDA leadership will reject his prayer," Sangma, who parted ways with Pawar following the latter's decision to enter into alliance with Congress, said.
Describing himself as principled politician, Sangma said that he had snapped his 25-year association with Congress opposing Sonia Gandhi's candidature as the Prime Minister and would continue to do so till his last as "India has to be ruled by an Indian only and not by an Italian".
