Jhajjar (Haryana): Launching a scathing attack on Congress, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (May 2, 2004) accused it of playing "games" to destabilise Governments and insisted the party was on the path of defeat.

Addressing a rally in this farmer-dominated region of Haryana bordering Delhi, he also sought to woo the agriculture community by listing various steps taken by his Government for them and promising more schemes which "can be implemented if a strong, pro-farmer" party is voted to power at the Centre.

"Time has come for you to make a decision as to what kind of Government should be in Delhi," Vajpayee said.

Noting that Congress had lost power in recent Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, he said, "The party continues to be on the path of defeat."

"People are now fed up with Congress and its rule. There has been no end to people's problems during that party's rule," the Prime Minister alleged adding, "People's troubles and corruption under Congress rule had increased."

Taking a swipe at Congress for claiming that no party except it could provide a stable Government, Vajpayee said he had successfully run a coalition Government for six years.

"Congress always tries to dislodge any Government that is formed. They are used to playing these games," he charged referring to the fall of Governments headed by Charan Singh and Chandrashekhar.

"However we did not allow that," he said, adding Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had been fighting Congress since it entered politics as its work culture and ideology differed from that of Congress.
