India's nuke program not aimed at anyone: PM

Jhajjar (Haryana): Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (May 2, 2004) asserted that India's nuclear programme was not aimed against anybody but will not tolerate any aggression from any country.

Addressing a rally, he said when his Government conducted nuclear tests in 1998, the whole world realised India's potential.

"But we told them there is no need to worry as it (nuclear bomb) is not against anybody," Vajpayee said, adding "but anybody uses it (nuclear bomb) against us, we will not allow it too."

He said his National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government had focussed on "Jai Vigyan" besides "Jai Jawan and Jai Kisan".

Due to the efforts of scientists along with those of farmers, the country's foodgrain production has increased manifold providing a comfortable situation, the Prime Minister said.

He said foodgrain production needed to be increased further to ensure proper food quota for the entire population, which is rising.
