BJP leader shot dead at Bhatkal town in Karnataka

Bangalore: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Bhatkal town in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district last night (May 2, 2004), police said.

Uttara Kannada district Superintendent of Police S Mukherjee said that Thimmappa Honnappa Naik, a former taluka president of BJP, succumbed to gunshot wounds he sustained in the attack.

Mukherjee said that the police are looking out for clues, and an investigation is on. A post-mortem is being conducted in a Manipal hospital and after the procedure, it would be known whether he received bullets or pellets in the incident.
