BJP biggest danger for stability of country: V P Singh Monday, May 3 2004 15:42 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Observing that stability of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Government is "inimical" to the country, former Prime Minister V P Singh today (May 3, 2004) said that to preserve society it was necessary to "throw out" the saffron party and extended support to Congress where the Third Front was absent.
"A party practising politics of hate is the worst for the stability of the country and that is why BJP is the biggest danger for the stability of the country," he told reporters and asked what was more important - stability of the society and country or of the Government.
He said the only way to uproot BJP was to vote for Left parties and Janata Dal - Secular (JD-S) and where they were not present, the Congress. "Left and JD-S are my first choice. But at places where they are not present, Congress should be voted."
Singh said he had campaigned for JD-S in Karnataka and now he would be going to West Bengal and Kerala to muster support for the Left parties.
Asked about the change in his attitude towards Congress, he said though "we have fought each other to our hearts' content", after Gujarat BJP's fascist face has been exposed.
To a question as to how he felt now for having accepted BJP's support to run the National Front Government in 1989, he said, "After Gujarat I regret taking BJP's support. I could not recognise them then."
