Imphal: Seven militants of the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) were killed in an encounter with Assam Rifles at Molnom village about 35 km East of Imphal in Ukhrul hill district of Manipur late last night (May 3, 2004), official sources said.

The sources said, acting on a tip-off a strong force of Assam Rifles rushed to Molnom area and cordoned up the area.

They were fired by the KRA militants. The AR immediately returned the fire which lasted about five hours. Seven TRA militants killed in the encounter, the sources added.

AR forces recovered one AK 47 rifle, one M21 rifle, one US carbine, one.303 rifle and large number of ammunitions besides lot of documents of the outfit from the area.

Heavy enforcement who rushed to the spot today launched a combing operation in the hilly area and the operation is still continuing.

In another incident, one civilian was killed in an explosion in village Hency in Changel district late last night, official sources said adding further details were awaited.
