Cong, BJP workers break into armed clash, 17 hurt Tuesday, May 4 2004 12:15 Hrs (IST)

In a sudden pre-poll violence, at least 17 people were injured, some seriously, in armed clashes between Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at Harrai and Chhindi villages in the prestigious Chhindwara Lok Sabha constituency of Madhya Pradesh early today (May 4, 2004), police said.
Trouble erupted in the wee hours, when more than a dozen unidentified persons stormed villages, some 65 km from Chhindwara, when party workers were asleep leading to violent clashes in which swords, knives and lathis were used, while some of them opened fire in air, police said.
