Islamabad:
Pakistan police have detained two persons in connection with the car bomb attack, which killed three Chinese engineers working on a multi-million Dollar seaport project in South West Baluchistan.
Police said they have detained two suspects in Karachi for interrogation in relation to yesterday's (May 3, 2004) blast in Gwadar port, about 500 kms west of Karachi, near the border with Iran.
Reports said that police traced details of the van used by suspected militants to carry out the attack with a remote controlled device. The vehicle was stolen from Karachi few weeks ago.
The attack took place yesterday morning as 12 Chinese engineers were being transported in a coach to Gwadar port. Militants blew up a explosive-laden Suzuki Alto apparently through remote control as the bus carrying the Chinese to their work passed by.
The three engineers were part of over 300 Chinese workforce currently working at Gwadar to build a strategic deep sea water port. The port project is being built by Pakistan with monetary and technical assistance provided by China.
Three Chinese were killed and 11 others injured. Nine of the injured were identified as Chinese and the rest were Pakistanis. The condition of all the injured, who were admitted to hospitals in Karachi was reportedly stable.
President Pervez Musharraf termed the attack as a terrorist one aimed at hurting Pakistan-China relations.
