'Politicians must stay away from Ayodhya issue' Wednesday, May 5 2004 14:43 Hrs (IST)
Indore:
Advising the political leaders to stay away from the Ayodhya dispute, Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetha Jayendra Saraswati today (May 5, 2004) said the process to solve the vexed issue would be initiated again after the Lok Sabha polls.
"After the (Lok Sabha) polls, the process to solve the vexed issue of Ayodhya would be initiated again," Saraswati told reporters after inaugurating the newly constructed Sicca school building in Indore.
To a question on the role of politicians in the matter, he said as long as politics is involved, nothing could be done.
When asked for a specific deadline and also about his earlier attempt to solve the vexed issue, he said, "There is no time limit. One has to make efforts again and again."
Stating that the Government and the courts will have a role in solving the issue, the Shankaracharya said if the efforts, to be made by him again would result in any solution, then it would be placed in the court by involving Government in it.
Saraswati also favoured a uniform law in the country to check the religious conversion and added that there should not be any compulsion for adopting any religion.
"It (the conversion) should be by choice only," he added.
He said he believed that foreign agencies are involved in the conversion activities in the country.
The issue of conversion can also be checked by keeping contacts with the people at the religious level besides the social level, the Shankaracharya said.
