Rajnikant said he had congratulated Vajpayee in advance that he would occupy the top post of the country once again after the polls.

Thanking Vajpayee for specifically mentioning about interlinking of the country's rivers in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) manifesto and subsequently at public meetings, he said he had learnt from one of the Prime Minister's meetings that a massive effort of river linking was like 'Bhagareetha Prayarthana.'

"My humble suggestion to you is to name the joining of Indian rivers project as Bhagareetha Yojana", the actor said, requesting the Prime Minister to implement the project without any delay and in "letter and spirit".

Rajnikant reiterated his commitment to contribute Rs one crore towards the project, which he described as a Herculean task.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was not present at the airport to receive the Prime Minister but had deputed senior partymen to receive Vajpayee at the airport.
