The three service chiefs of the Indian Armed forces today (May 7, 2004) took stock of the security scenario in the Northeastern region at a closely guarded meeting.
Navy chief Admiral Madhavendra Singh, who is the Chairman of Chief of Staff Committee, Army chief General N C Vij and Air Chief Marshal S Krishnaswamy attended the top-level meeting at the Eastern Air Command headquarters.
The meeting, which was out of bounds for the media, was stated to be a "routine" affair, according to a Defence spokesman.
The service chiefs, who arrived last evening (May 6, 2004), also visited some forward posts in the North-Eastern region. But no details were available.
The spokesman said the three chiefs also visited the famous Kamakhya temple in Guwahati and called on Assam Governor Ajai Singh during the day.
The Defence top brass would leave for Delhi tomorrow morning (May 8, 2004).
The meeting, the spokesman said, was aimed at coordination among three services of the Armed forces.
