Malayalee Council to help youth integrate cultures
Friday, May 7 2004 15:06 Hrs (IST)

New York: The World Malayalee Council (WMC) will hold its fourth global conference in Bahrain from August 18 to 21 to consider issues facing the community in various parts of the world and to draw up its future programmes including expansion of meet which will also consider ways to keep the rich culture and heritage alive in the second generation of people who spent most their time or were born in the country of their adoption.

Already WMC is running programmes to help the youth to integrate two cultures.

Indian Ambassador for the People of Indian Origin B K Agnihotri kicked off the registration campaign by submitting first form to the WMC at the biennial meeting of the American chapter of the Council which was held in Englewood in the neighbouring New Jersey State.

Asked whether he would attend the meet, Angihotri said, "That's the idea."

Agnihotri commended WMC for trying to network the community across the world and in Kerala but urged it to network also with the Indian bodies which represent other regions of the country.

WMC, he said, is doing "tremendous job" in both helping people of Kerala and keeping their rich culture and heritage alive by consciously teaching Indian values to the younger generation.
