'Communists aur Congress ke parde ke piche kya hai?'
Friday, May 7 2004 16:47 Hrs (IST)

Kharagpur (West Bengal): People in West Bengal should ask a simple question to the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) and Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Venkaiah Naidu said, when they had professed love to each other, why fight?

Naidu said he could not understand why the two parties were fighting against each other in the Lok Sabha poll in the State, when they had already stated that they would join hands to form a Government at the Centre.

"Yeh Communists aur Congress ka parde ke piche kya hai?" (What is going on behind the curtains of the Communists and Congress), he asked, suggesting "Agar pyar kiya to darna kya?" (If they are in love, what do they fear?).

If they joined hands to grab power, what stopped them to forge an alliance like the BJP had done with National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners, Naidu wondered in a crowded rally in Kharagpur.

"Hum to khullum pyar karte hai" (we love openly) but look at the Communists and the Congress, they don't have the guts to form a pre-poll alliance and are yet thinking of joining hands after the election only to prevent the NDA to form the Government at the Centre, he said.

The Communists in their 27-year rule had only managed to push the state backwards, he observed, saying when computers were introduced, the Left Front Government had vehemently opposed it pleading that they would create unemployment.

Now the Chief Minister is pleading with the IT companies to set up their units in the State and assuring them that they will have the right to hire and fire at will, he said.
