Enough is enough; defeat BJP, Sonia tells nation Saturday, May 8 2004 17:39 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Congress president Sonia Gandhi today (May 8, 2004) asked people to make National Democratic Alliance (NDA) bite the dust in the Lok Sabha elections, saying the future of the country was in peril in the hands of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition.
"Enough is enough. Now is the time to change the Government at the Centre and to create history... Defeat the BJP and save the nation," she said at a public meeting at the historic Ram Lila Grounds in New Delhi.
Winding up her campaign for the polls, Gandhi made a scathing attack on the BJP-led coalition, alleging that its rule was steeped in corruption and there was bungling even in the purchase of caskets for the Kargil martyrs.
Observing that the nation's security was in peril under their rule, she said the Government had even played fraud on the youth of the country.
The Congress president had a dig at the BJP in the wake of reports that the saffron outfit was in search of new friends.
"BJP has become panicky. Its alliance is tottering and a search is on for new parties," she said in an apparent reference to exit poll predictions of a hung Lok Sabha.
