The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely to get a majority in the Lok Sabha elections securing 267-279 seats with the Congress and allies expected to get 171-183 seats and "others" likely to bag 85-97 seats, according to a Star News-C-voter opinion poll.
According to the poll conducted by Star News-The Telegraph-Dainik Bhaskar-C-Voter in 135 of the 182 constituencies which go to polls on May 10 in the final phase, the indications are BJP-led NDA may get 62-70 seats with the Congress and allies securing 62-70 seats and "others" bagging 48-56 seats.
In Uttar Pradesh where voting is to take place in 18 Lok Sabha constituencies, the BJP's tally is likely to touch 10 from four in 1999. The Congress and allies and Samajwadi Party (SP) are likely to get three seats each with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) taking two and one to others.
The NDA is expected to suffer a major setback in Tamil Nadu where the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-Congress alliance is expected to score major gains taking as many as 30 of the 39 seats.
The ruling NDA is not expected to open its account in Kerala where it continues to be a two-horse race between Congress and the Left with the latter expected to get 13 up from nine in 1999.
Even in West Bengal, the Left is expected to improve its tally winning two more than in 1999 touching 31 at the cost BJP-Nationalist Trinamool Congress (NTC) combine and the Congress which are likely to end up with nine and two seats respectively.
Another state where the NDA is expected to have a setback is in Haryana where the Congress is set to win five with BJP likely to get two and the remaining three being picked up by others.
In Delhi, the poll gives four to BJP and three to Congress while in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP tally will be one less taking three of the four with Congress getting one.
