Vajpayee concludes with call to end dynastic rule Saturday, May 8 2004 19:20 Hrs (IST)
Ludhiana:
Making a last minute effort to woo voters, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (May 8, 2004) asked people to end dynastic politics and castigated the Opposition for its lack of consensus and single point agenda of removing the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) from power.
"Our opponents make allegations without proving them. When we were in Opposition, we have never opposed for the sake of opposition. We have praised constructive steps," he said addressing a joint BJP-SAD (Shiromani Akali Dal) rally in Ludhiana.
"We don't accept the theory that only they will rule and no one else has a right to rule. Whoever is elected by the people shall rule. Dynastic politics should end," he said even as he exhorted NDA (National Democratic Alliance) supporters to come out and vote and not sit at home.
"We have successfully run a coalition Government. Even in this election, those who want to come with us are welcome but there should be a consensus on a common programme. As for the Opposition front, no one knows who will form it and who will lead it. Their only constructive programme is to 'BJP ko roko, Akali Dal ko dabao' (stop BJP and suppress SAD). People have rejected this negative attitude," he said.
