Congress has surrendered in MP poll battle: BJP Sunday, May 9 2004 19:38 Hrs (IST)
Bhopal:
Claiming that Congress has surrendered in the poll battle in Madhya Pradesh, State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (May 9, 2004) said it is confident of bagging all 29 Lok Sabha seats in the State for which all out efforts are being made to ensure high voting.
"Congress has virtually accepted defeat from the very beginning. The party cadre is highly demoralised and none of its senior leaders was ready to contest," State BJP President Kailash Joshi told reporters in Bhopal.
BJP was apprehensive about some seats in Madhya Pradesh but in the past 4-5 days "all doubts have been cleared and now we are confident of winning all 29 seats as per the target set by us," he claimed.
Joshi further claimed that the people want a similar result a seen in last year's Assembly elections in which BJP stormed to power with a landslide victory with a record three-fourth majority as Congress was made to bite the dust.
He said BJP was making special efforts to ensure that the turn-out of voters, which was a dismal 47.34 per cent in the first phase on May 5, was raised substantially for which party workers have been asked to mobilise the electorate.
The BJP chief said people are in favour of BJP-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) again forming the Government at the Centre as they want political stability which is essential for economic development.
