Cong, allies will get absolute majority: Jaipal Sunday, May 9 2004 18:44 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Terming the prospects of a hung Parliament as "bookish possibility", Congress today (May 9, 2004) said it will hold talks with other secular parties for a change of Government at the Centre after the results of Lok Sabha are announced.
Asserting that Congress and allies will get absolute majority in the current Lok Sabha polls, party spokesman Jaipal Reddy said that he did not agree there would be a hung Parliament and said he would comment on it only if such a situation arose.
On whether his party would talk to other parties in case the Congress and allies do not get an absolute majority, in the on going Lok Sabha polls, Reddy merely said, "we will cross the bridge when we come to it".
He said his party would not like to comment on the possibility of seeking support from Samajwadi party or BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) till the arithmetic is known on May 13.
