Pak welcomes Vajpayee's commitment to peace process Sunday, May 9 2004 13:45 Hrs (IST)
Islamabad:
Pakistan today (May 9, 2004) welcomed Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's commitment to pursue the dialogue process with Islamabad to its logical end.
"We do welcome Prime Minister Vajpayee's reiteration of his commitment to the dialogue process as well as his expression of the hope that the comprehensive dialogue process at the official and ministerial levels could culminate in a summit," Pakistan Foreign office spokesman Masood Khan was quoted as saying by the official media.
At a rally in Ludhiana yesterday (May 8, 2004), Vajpayee had vowed to take the Indo-Pak peace initiative to its logical end.
He had also said that India was keen to resolve all problems with Pakistan through talks provided it stopped sponsoring terrorism.
Khan, however, termed as "incorrect" and "baseless" reports attributed to some quarters in India that Pakistan sponsored terrorism to prevent voters from casting their ballots in the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The "low turnout" cannot be attributed to "terrorists" as leading Kashmiri leaders have "opposed" these polls, he said adding that there has been no interference from Pakistan.
"No utterances should be made to undermine the spirit of confidence building and dialogue put together by President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Vajpayee on January 6 this year," Khan said.
