HC appoints Thipsay to conduct Best Bakery trial Monday, May 10 2004 19:56 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
In keeping with the Supreme Court directive of transferring the Best Bakery trial to Maharashtra, the Bombay High Court has appointed additional sessions judge A M Thipsay to conduct the case in Mumbai.
A notification to this effect was issued by Registrar General R C Chavan on May 7, High Court sources told reporters.
A compliance report has also been sent to the Supreme Court in this regard, the sources added.
According to the notification, the Judge would conclude the trial by the end of the year.
Thipsay is hearing sessions triable cases in a court at Sewri in Mumbai. As a designated judge of a special court, he is also hearing cases under POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act).
In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court had on April 12 quashed the acquittal of 21 accused in the post-Godhra Gujarat riot case, ordered re-trial of the case and shifted it to a Maharashtra court.
