Jaya unhappy over missing names in voters list
Monday, May 10 2004 12:03 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo Jayalalithaa today (May 10, 2004) refused to comment on the opinion and exit polls, which have predicted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) might not cross the halfway mark in the 14th Lok Sabha.

"I will wait for the results to come. I will reserve my comments till then," Jayalalithaa, whose party is contesting the elections in alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said after casting her vote at the Stella Marry's College booth this morning.

She alleged that a large number of voters in the booth were denied their voting right. For example, a woman who had been living in the Poes Garden area since 1968 much before she (Jayalalithaa) constructed a house there, could not cast her vote on as her name was not in the voters list, she said.

Similar complaints were received from elsewhere and her party would take it up with the state Chief Electoral Officer, she said.

The preparation of the voters list was not in the hands of the State Government. It was the CEO who had been vested with the responsibility, she added.
