Ultras attack poll booths in JK, polling unaffected

Jammu: Militants opened fire and lobbed grenades from hilltops at two polling stations in Doda district today (May 10, 2004) as elections began for Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu and Kashmir.

No casualty was reported in the attacks which took place in Baderwah area and the polling continued unaffected, police said.

Militants fired from hilltop and aimed a rocket-propelled grenade at a booth in Hali Nallah. The grenade exploded in air without causing any damage, they said.

In Maloti area militants opened fire from a hilltop at a polling station around 0830 hours, police said.

Security personnel posted at the booth retaliated and both sides exchanged intermittent fire but the polling was not affected, they said.
