Monday, May 10 2004 14:48 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Army today (May 10, 2004) moved to shift the legal proceedings against personnel involved in the fake killings in the world's highest battlefield Siachen glacier outside Jammu and Kashmir, making it clear that disciplinary action would be taken against all erring officers, irrespective of rank and level.

"We want to achieve transparency and would be holding the legal proceedings as an open trial outside the place of occurrence in Jammu and Kashmir," Major General Deepak Summenwar, additional director general public information, said.

Summenwar, in a statement, said that the Army was all for total transparency in the disciplinary proceedings against defaulters to assure fairness in justice.

He said that if any other officer irrespective of rank and level were found to have also erred in the incident, disciplinary action would also be taken against them.

After the completion of the court of inquiry, Army is now moving to recording of summary evidence against those found guilty by the COI. It is only after the completion of recording of summary evidence that Army can initiate the Court Martial proceedings, sources said.
