Congress captures Andhra, leads in 193, wins 3 seats

Hyderabad: Riding high on anti-incumbency wave, a resurgent Congress surged ahead in Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections establishing early leads in 193 constituencies while the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were ahead in 66 seats.

Of the five results declared, Congress has bagged three while TDP and others won one each.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was leading over his nearest Congress rival M Subramanyam Reddy in Kuppam in Chittoor district by about 15,000 votes after completion of fifth round of counting.

Several Ministers including S Chandramohan Reddy (Sarvepally in Nellore district), V Shobhanadreshwar Rao (Mydukur-Krishna district), Mutyam Reddy (Dommat-Medak district), Babu Mohan (Andhole-Medak) and N Narasimha Rao (Machilipatnam-Krishna) were trailing.

The fledgling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), facing Assembly elections for the first time in alliance with Congress, is surging ahead in Telangana districts of Karimnagar, Medak, Warangal and Nizamabad.

According to the trends available after completion of initial rounds of counting Congress' victory march appeared spread across the regions.

The Opposition candidates established leads in Warangal, Khammam and Karimnagar, Krishna, Nellore, East Godavari, Vizianagar and even in Chief Minister's home district Chittoor.
