Sessions court attacked; one killed, 10 escape

Gaya: One person was killed and five others injured today (May 12, 2004) when criminals exploded bombs and opened fire at the district court and freed about 10 prisoners, four of whom were recaptured shortly after the incident, Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh said.

Unidentified criminals exploded three bombs and opened nearly 15 rounds of fire killing one person and injuring five, including a lawyer Subodh Kumar Sinha, Singh said.

Around 10 undertrials, who were brought to the court for production, escaped but four were recaptured.

Three undertrials present in the court were also injured in the attack.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be established.

The court premises have been vacated and raids were on to apprehend the escapees, he said.
