Cong in for an unassailable lead in AP: leads in 35

Hyderabad: In a virtual repeat of the performance in Assembly elections, a resurgent Congress is set to bag a lion's share of Lok Sabha seats in alliance with TRS and Left parties in Andhra Pradesh as the combine led by it was leading in 35 constituencies out of a total of 42 while TDP-BJP combine was leading in only five seats.

Defeat was staring at several TDP-BJP bigwigs, including Union Ministers Ch Vidyasagar Rao, B Dattatreya and U R Krishnamraju as Congress-TRS-left parties combine candidates established massive leads over their rivals, according to early trends available.

The TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao established an unassailable lead of 85,000 votes over senior BJP leader Vidyasagar Rao in Karimnagar, the heartland of Telangana.

In the coastal constituency of Amalapuram, once represented by former Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi, the Congress candidate G V Harsha Kumar was leading over his nearest TDP rival D Janardhan Rao.

The AICC spokesman S Jaipal Reddy was leading by over 16,500 votes over is TDP rival Swamigoud in Miryalguda constituency. The firebrand Congress leader Renuka Choudhary was leading in Khammam seat by over 25,000 votes.

The TDP founder leader late NTR's daughter D Purandareshwari, who is contesting on Congress ticket, was leading in Bapatla constituency over her TDP rival and noted film producer D Rama Naidu.

In the dissolved Lok Sabha, TDP had 29 seats, its ally BJP seven and Congress had five members while Hyderabad constituency was represented by MIM.
