Vajpayee to formally resign after Cabinet meeting

New Delhi: Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will formally tender his resignation to President A P J Abdul Kalam after a Cabinet meeting this afternoon (May 13, 2004).

PMO sources explained that the resignation was mandatory after the elections, as Vajpayee was not a caretaker Prime Minister during the elections.

A meeting of top BJP leaders convened by Vajpayee at his residence this afternoon decided that the Cabinet would meet at 17.00 hrs (IST) after which he will go to Rashtrapati Bhawan and hand over his resignation.

Later the Prime Minister will broadcast to the nation, PMO sources said.

BJP Parliamentary Board will meet tomorrow and the NDA on May 15.
