BJP's pro-Muslim policies led to its defeat: VHP Thursday, May 13 2004 16:25 Hrs (IST)
Ahmedabad:
In a stinging criticism of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies, Gujarat unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today (May 13, 2004) said the saffron party has been out rightly rejected by the masses for showing "disdain for Hindu agenda" and policy of "Muslim appeasement".
"The results are an eye opener for BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition which has shown utter contempt for the Hindu agenda. They crossed all limits of Muslim appeasement, which has been out rightly rejected by the masses," VHP general secretary Dilip Trivedi said in a statement reacting to Lok Sabha poll outcome.
Trivedi said, "The BJP had left no stone unturned in pleasing the Muslims to garner votes by promising jobs to two crore Urdu teachers, financial assistance to Madrasas and propagating that masses in Pakistan also want Vajpayee as the the Prime Minister of India."
However, Congress must remember that it was the same Muslim appeasement that had brought down its Government in the past, he added.
