Y S Rajasekhar Reddy sworn-in as AP Chief Minister

Hyderabad: The doctor-turned-politician Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, who steered Congress to a stupendous victory in Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, was today (May 14, 2004) sworn in as Chief Minister amidst much fanfare.

Reddy was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Surjeet Singh Barnala at Lal Bahadur Stadium.

As thousands of enthusiastic Congress activists, who thronged the stadium, raised slogans hailing his leadership, YSR, as he is popularly known, took the oath at 13:39 hours (IST) at a specially erected podium.

Reddy took the oath in the name of God as the State's 14th Chief Minister amidst rapturous applause from the crowd.
