Paswan says Sonia should become Prime Minister Friday, May 14 2004 22:32 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Ram Vilas Paswan today (May 14, 2004) said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi should become the Prime Minister to provide a stable Government and all secular allies should join it.
"Congress is the largest party and it was needed for providing a stable Government at the Centre," he told reporters soon after coming to Delhi after his victory from Hajipur Lok Sabha seat in Bihar.
Paswan, whose party had a pre-poll tie-up with Congress, said he never had any objection to Gandhi heading the Government. "There is no change in my stand and I offer my support to her becoming the Prime Minister," he said.
Asked if his party would join the new Government, he said it was never an issue. "My sole objective was the defeat of NDA (National Democratic Alliance) and the task has been accomplished," he said.
