Section of IA ground staff goes on flash strike
Friday, May 14 2004 20:35 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: A section of Indian Airlines (IA) ground staff at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) went on a flash strike today (May 14, 2004) over suspension of two employees and alleged "harassment" by police following disappearance of 25 kg of gold last week.

The strike, timed with the arrival of newly-elected Lok Sabha members and other VIPs, was causing delay in luggage clearance, airport sources said.

The consignment of gold, costing about Rs 1.14 crore, had gone missing while being ferried from Mumbai to Delhi on May 7.

The strikers were also alleging "harassment" by police during investigations into the case, the sources said.
