Most allies have given letters of support: Cong

New Delhi: Most of the allies of the Congress-led coalition have given their letters of support to Sonia Gandhi for becoming the Prime Minister, her Political Secretary Ahmed Patel said today (May 15, 2004).

Rest of the letters of support would be received by today or tomorrow, he said.

Gandhi is slated to meet Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPM) leader Jyoti Basu, Telengana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, Ram Vilas Paswan of Lok Janshakti and E Ahmed of IUML (Indian Union Muslim League) today.

Gandhi is expected to meet Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi tomorrow before a joint meeting of the allies.

Asked whether the Left parties would also be invited for the joint meeting, Patel said, "Most probably."
