Sunday, May 16 2004 13:45 Hrs (IST)

Srirangapata (Mysore): Lakshmi Parvathi, the widow of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister late N T Ramarao today (May 16, 2004) immersed the ashes of her husband at Pashchima Vahini, the confluence of Cauvery to fulfil a "vow" to do so if the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Government led by Chandrababu Naidu was ousted from power.

"I feel relieved and satisfied," Paravathi said as she immersed the ashes of NTR.

She said she had vowed in front of NTR samadhi in 1996 that she would not rest contended till Naidu was voted out of power.

"With Naidu's humiliating defeat in the recently concluded elections my vow has been fulfilled," a beaming Parvathi said.

She said she planned to immerse the ashes of her late husband in Ganga near Haridwar next month.

NTR died on January 18, 1996 and Naidu pushed Parvathi to the political oblivion by becoming a successor to his father-in-law.
