Sunday, May 16 2004 16:07 Hrs (IST)

Hamburg: Leander Paes and David Rikl lost in the semifinals of the 2.4 million Euro ATP Tennis Masters Doubles at Hamburg, Germany.

The unseeded Indo-Czech pair went down 6-7 (4/7) 3-6 to top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan of the US yesterday in the last major clay court event ahead of the French Open Grand Slam.

Paes and Rikl, however, defended their 225 ATP points they had earned by reaching the Hamburg semifinals last year.

The French Open begins at Paris on May 24.
