Poll outcome was a fractured verdict, says Mahajan Monday, May 17 2004 09:24 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary Pramod Mahajan said that the Lok Sabha poll outcome was a "fractured verdict and not a referendum for Sonia (Gandhi) to become the Prime Minister".
In a talk show on Aaj Tak, he said, "It is a fractured verdict and not a referendum for Sonia to become Prime Minister. Nowhere during the elections had the Congress projected Sonia as their Prime Ministerial candidate, because they knew that the electorate will not accept her as the Prime Minister of the country."
Mahajan wanted the "Government to last five years, because I believe that elections before five years is not good for the country".
He asserted that BJP would never resort to caste-based politics as was done in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
"Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal indulge in caste based politics. BJP will never resort to caste-based politics," Mahajan said.
