Cong, Left, SP leaders meet at Surjeet's house

New Delhi: Senior leaders of Congress, Left parties and Samajwadi Party (SP) met in New Delhi today (May 18, 2004) to discuss the situation arising out of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's reported reluctance to head the new Government.

Congress leaders Manmohan Singh, Arjun Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) leader Sitaram Yechury, SP leader Amar Singh and former Prime Minister V P Singh deliberated on the situation at veteran Communist leader Harkishen Singh Surjeet's residence for about 30 minutes.

Emerging from the meeting, V P Singh refused to disclose what transpired, but said any official statement would be made by Congress.
