CPM makes fresh bid to persuade DMK to join Govt

New Delhi: Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPM) today (May 18, 2004) made fresh efforts to persuade Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) supremo M Karunanidhi to join a Congress-led coalition Government at the Centre but made it clear that the Left parties would not be participating in it.

CPM general secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet held a 20-minute meeting with Karunanidhi here to ask him to reconsider the DMK's stand of not participating in it.

"The matter (about the possibility of DMK joining the Government) was also discussed...the matter is developing in such a way that you will be satisfied," Surjeet told reporters after the meeting. He did not elaborate.
