Girls outshine boys in ICSE, ISC examinations

New Delhi: Girls have outshone boys at this year's Class X (ICSE) and Class XII (ISC) examinations conducted by the Council for Indian School Certificate exams with the former registering a higher pass percentage.

While 94.5 percent of a total of 36,135 girls passed the ICSE exam, the pass percentage among boys stood at 92.35 of a total of 43,421 candidates, a release from the Council said today (May 17, 2004).

The respective figures for the ISC exam are 96.54 per cent for girls and 92.98 for boys. A total of 15,336 girls and 19,987 boys took the exam.

However, the total pass percentage of ICSE exam registered a decrease of 0.72 percent compared to the previous year's figures and stood at 93.29 per cent, it said.

ISC figures showed a rise of 1.3 per cent over the last year at 94.48 percent.

Region wise, Southern region topped the list in the ISC exams with pass percentage of 98.03, but came second (96.92 per cent) behind West (96.96 per cent) at the ICSE exams.

The highest aggregate mark attained by a girl at the ICSE exam is 97.6 per cent and that at the ISC exam is 98 per cent, the release said.

The results would be released tomorrow at 12 pm, it said adding it can be accessed on the website www.cisce.org.
