Sonia meets Kalam; discusses Govt formation

New Delhi: Congress president and leader of United Progressive Alliance (UPA), Sonia Gandhi today (May 18, 2004) met President A P J Abdul Kalam to discuss Government formation.

She was accompanied by senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh.

The President had yesterday (May 17, 2004) sent a letter to Gandhi requesting her to meet him for discussions "as per her convenience".

The invitation to Gandhi was sent after Kalam noted that the Congress had emerged as the single-largest party in the Lok Sabha and with its pre-poll allies the largest political formation in the House.
