Wednesday, May 19 2004 13:47 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) today (May 19, 2004) decided to participate in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government.

DMK agreed to participate in the Government after Congress President Sonia Gandhi requested DMK Chief M Karunanidhi when she called on him this morning.

"He has accepted and conveyed that DMK will join the Government," Congress leaders Kamal Nath and Janardhan Reddy told reporters.

Gandhi emphasised during the meeting that DMK's participation was necessary to strengthen the Government, they said.
