Mufti asks Singh to continue peace process in JK Friday, May 21 2004 12:24 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir today (May 21, 2004) asked Prime Minister designate Manmohan Singh to continue the peace initiative in the State by taking forward dialogue with Pakistan and separatist Hurriyat Conference.
"We want resolution of the Kashmir problem whether it is taking the peace dialogue process with Pakistan forward or the initiation which has already taken place with Hurriyat leaders," PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said after meeting Singh.
She said, "We want him to expedite the process and other confidence building measures including the demand for the Muzaffarabad road."
Mehbooba, one of the early morning visitors, said that she had come to personally greet Singh on his appointment as Prime Minister.
The demand for Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, linking the Kashmir valley to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, assumes importance for starting a bus service to POK.
