Sonia's foreign origin to remain an issue for BJP
Sunday, May 23 2004 18:23 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Even after Congress president Sonia Gandhi declined the Prime Minister's post, her foreign origin continued to remain an issue for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to the assertion of its party president M Venkaiah Naidu.

"The foreign origin issue remains an issue for us and only Indian leaders should rule the country," declared Naidu at a press conference.

When his attention was focused to the sacrifice made by Gandhi, who refused to accept the post, Naidu shot back, asking, "If it is a sacrifice, why Congress workers have been burning the effigies of Sushma Swaraj and Uma Bharti?"
